Crafting for a good cause – Handmade with LOVE especially for children

Moya’s Workshop has proudly supported local charity organizations since its inception.

This year, we would like to invite you to donate your time and effort to craft handmade items, such as blankets, book bags, pencil cases, and lunch bags, to give to children in need.

For sewers, who use their skills to craft items, this experience can be so much more rewarding than giving a monetary donation. For the children who receive these, the handmade items can provide comfort and meet their basic needs during a difficult time.

Why not use your creativity to make someone’s life a little better? Remember to check the hospitals, shelters, and charity organizations in your local area to see what they need!

從小舖開始響應捐助兒福聯盟的公益拼被、後背包、便當袋、鉛筆盒之後

這個後背包非常受到小朋友的歡迎，兒福聯盟也希望我們能夠多做一些送給小朋友

我在這邊分享詳細的步驟示範做法，若妳時間許可、也覺得學到一個新袋型很開心

這個後背包是以無內裡包光的方法完成，非常快速方便

建議使用厚質棉布、厚質棉麻、帆布、或是防水布，厚一點會比較堅固耐用

準備材料：

表布33~36cm (依照布料幅寬/3) x 90cm

7mm粗棉繩180cm x 2條

2.5cm粗人字織帶 7cm x 2條

Materials:

14-1/2” (width) * 1 yard (length) of fabric

Two 2 yards of ¼” circumference cords

Two 2-3/4” of 1” wide herringbone webbings

表布備註：

1碼幅寬100~110cm的布料可以做3個，但是很多日本卡通布大概幅寬只有100cm可用。

工作室的恐龍布幅寬有到115cm，所以可以裁到38cm寬，但不建議裁超過38cm，不然形狀會變成詭異的正方形…

(以上只適用於圖案沒有方向性的布，若有方向性，則需取捨拼接)

Note:

1 yard 44” wide of fabric can make 3 Drawstring Backpacks. Just divide the width of the fabric by 3. This cutting method is only suitable for non-directional pattern fabric.

It is recommended to use home-deco fabric or any medium-to-heavy-weight fabric.

1. 表布上下兩端先折燙1cm 、再折燙 3cm

Step 1 : Fold and iron the short sides of the fabric 3/8” to the back, and then fold and iron 1-1/8” again.

2. 將袋口折燙處暫時先攤開，袋身背面相對對折，以縫份0.5cm車縫兩側至止點 (第二次折燙之下緣)

Step 2 : Temporarily flat the folds. Fold the fabric widthwise with the wrong side together. With a scant ¼” seam allowance, stitch the sides from the stop point, 2-5/8” from the short edges, to the bottom.

3. 於離袋底1.5cm處將人字織帶對折、開口朝外，以水溶性雙面膠固定於兩側表袋身上，不與縫份重疊以減少厚度

Step 3 : Fold the herringbone webbing in half. Align the raw edges with the stitched side line, and use the wash-away tape to hold it, ½” from the bottom. This can decrease bulk in seam allowances.

4. 將袋身內側翻出，以縫份0.7cm車縫兩側至止點，固定人字織帶並將縫份包光隱藏

Step 4 : Turn the wrong side out and iron the seam allowance flat. With 1/4” seam allowance, stitch the sides from the stop point to the bottom to enclose the seam previously stitched in Step 2.

5. 將袋身上側開口處縫份於車縫止點處剪開

Step 5 : Cut the seam at the stop point so that the seam can be flat. Be careful not to cut the stitched lines.

小技巧：由於已經決定縫份倒向，所以其實我們一側只剪開一半、另一側全部剪開

Tips : As I decided to have the seam toward the left side, I cut the left part of the seam half and the right part all the way near to the stitched line.

6. 將袋口縫份燙開，沿袋口U字形車縫0.5cm固定

Step 6 : Press the seam open and stitch around, 1/8” away from the edges.

7. 將袋口依照步驟1的折燙折回，沿上緣2.8cm車縫一圈固定袋口折燙處，並形成軌道

Step 7 : Press the folds in Step 1 back. Top-stitch 1” from the top edge to create a channel.

8. 將棉繩兩端以膠帶固定，避免鬆脫

Step 8 : You may use the tape to hold the raw edges of the cords. This is helpful when threading the cords.

9. 以穿帶器將棉繩穿過人字織帶與袋口軌道處，打結即可完成

Step 9 : Use a bodkin to thread the cords through the channel and herringbone webbings. Tie knots for the cords.
